This is hiliarious. A Dolphin that patrols the waters for rouge swimmers? I love it!
Evidently, bolstering security at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor close to Seattle is a high priority these days. Of course, I can not help thinking that this could be nothing more than psychological warfare to make a terrorist, prankster or whomever with sinister designs think twice about going in the waters on the Pugest Sound. This statement makes me wonder: “The Navy is seeking public comment for an environmental impact statement on the proposal.” Really? Okay, okay so their intent might be pure. But why not just keep it quiet?

I have been in a major purge mode and reorganizing life. It’s amazing how much crap tends to build up over time. There are of course some things worth keeping. For example, this test on determining your innovation quotient is one for the general reference file. The questions are unconventional, as you might expect, and the thought of such a test is interesting to say the least.
Here is a sample question:
If I were stranded in the desert, the question I’d be most likely to ask myself is:
a) How do I get to water?
b) How do I get water to come to me?
c) What is the meaning of (my) life?
d) How can I make (my) life more meaningful?
You could use it as a starting point for a consulting practice to overhaul HR as we know it, or start a No Genius Left Behind campaign for corporate america
Go ahead, give it a try. What’s your IQ?

Pandora is a “Music Genome Project” that,“…ended up assembling literally hundreds of musical attributes or “genes” into a very large Music Genome. Taken together these genes capture the unique and magical musical identity of a song - everything from melody, harmony and rhythm, to instrumentation, orchestration, arrangement, lyrics, and of course the rich world of singing and vocal harmony. It’s not about what a band looks like, or what genre they supposedly belong to, or about who buys their records - it’s about what each individual song sounds like.”
It’s been around since 2000 and has evolved into a unique way of listening to streamed music, bookmarking your favorites and even liking directly to iTunes. You can select an artist, (eg. LTJ Bukem) and Pandora will stream relevent music making it easy to discover independent artists and music that otherwise would take some effort. This would be an awesome thing to have with a future Apple iPhone, or any high speed hand held. Check it out.
An article in today’s Washington Post titled “The Top Pickers vs. the Pack” compares the wisom of crowds phenomenom with a more thoughtful approach of finding expertise or genius from the crowd. To me, this shows a brilliant approach to democratizing punditry.
I particularly enjoyed learning about Marketocracy and their combination of performance analysis of virtual mutual funds created by users and the social networking aspect of asking other users to rate the stock-picker’s analysis. The difference between being right and knowing why you are right is the difference between being smart and being wise, or cognitive and metacognitive. Metacognition is much more powerful and useful to the rest of us.
is less interested in fame or celebrity than those who strive to be seen as wise. Most of today’s most noted pundits are born more out of their ambitions than any true measure of greatness, let alone wisdom. We would all benefit if thought leaders were more wise, more metacognitive and more demographically chosen.
